Welcome to the Goo Goo Guru blog. These are interesting and uncertain times, and can even be scary especially when you have a little one. Our goal is to bring you peace, laughter, and a metaphorical shoulder to lean on. We'll get through this together. #yougotthis

Day 3 of Lockdown: Start a Blog

Welcome! A little bit about me. I'm a quirky, liberal Midwestern mom who has spent the last 15+ years at a public library as a children’s program coordinator doing storytimes for babies and big kids. Since 2005, I have taught baby sign language, baby massage, and big + little kid yoga as a side gig, too. As luck would have it, I signed on to start a new corporate job about 2 days before the COVID-19 pandemic hit hard. Yay! #breathe The big plan was to start a blog to stay connected with library families somewhere down the road, but life happens so here we are.
We are all going through this together, yet apart, which is the hardest thing for most of us. And as much as everyone tells you how awesome and blessed you are to be able to be at home 24-hours a day with your mini me, it’s a huge mental adjustment. #kidsbecray

Zen When You Can
Before you get lost in all of the edu app, crafty, outdoorsy, baking treats whole-lotta-fun activities...we need as caregivers to practice self care. Oh yeah, I’m a currently non-practicing massage therapist too so I’ll make you get a little zen when you can. #zenwhenyoucan
First Step: Just Breathe!
Even if you have to go hide in the bathroom for 2 minutes, try this:
1. Close your eyes. Put one hand on your heart and the other on your belly.
2. Take a deep breath in through your nose as you expand your belly. Imagine you have a balloon in your belly. When you breathe in, the balloon inflates.
3. Exhale slowly with your mouth slightly open, like you are blowing on hot tea.
4. Repeat a few times.
This will help slow your heart rate and calm you.
Until next time. We are going to get through this.
